Temple 39 is the final temple of the second phase, the Path of Asceticism. A figure climbs the stairs, faceless and nameless. Blurred by the camera’s movement, yet still present, almost floating. What remains is the tranquillity they radiate. No haste, no strain. Just this one step, and then the next.
That is precisely what the Shikoku Trail is all about. It is not the destination that matters, but the journey itself.
