At the beginning of October, I'll be in Winery K. F. Groebe pick up the pictures in Westhofen.
Fifteen works, in colour, created mostly between 2017 and 2019.
It is my first series, and it is leaving a place where it was well and truly looked after for a long time.
Normally, works end up in storage after an exhibition and wait for the next wall.
Not quite this time. Maybe they're going on your wall now?!
By 31 December 2026, I will release every single work „Rheinhessen beyond the obvious“, which is still available, to the Kinderkrebshilfe Mainz e. V. charity.
50 percent of the retail price goes directly to the club.
Why this series of all things
The pictures were taken right on the doorstep. Hills, vines, paths, weather.
Rheinhessen is such a versatile landscape that can surprise you time and time again.
You can keep looking back, and every time you will see something different.
That was precisely the question I set out with back then:
What remains of a place when you stop simply „depicting“ it?
Motion blur strips the landscape of its precision and gives it something else in return.
Not the subject, but the feeling in the moment.
These are the works from the early years.
Photographic art from Rheinhessen in the literal sense, created between vineyards that I know on foot, not on a journey.
In this respect, it's the series that has the most to do with this region.
And therefore just the right one to give something back too.
Where the 50 per cent goes
The Kinderkrebshilfe Mainz e. V. supports the Paediatric Oncology Centre of the University Medical Centre Mainz. Research, psychosocial support, spaces where children can be children during treatment, and emergency aid for families who have had the ground pulled from under their feet.
The organisation is funded entirely by donations.
This is not an abstract thing in a distant city.
It is an organisation in the region where I have lived, worked and photographed for over 30 years.
Charity weekend at The Pier in Mainz
The opening event is the charity vernissage „Art against Cancer“ at The Pier, Große Bleiche 15 in Mainz.
Saturday, 12 September 2026, from 5 pm to 8 pm, together with other artists from the region.
On Sunday, 13 September, there will also be an open house.
I myself will be there on site this Sunday from 2 pm to 5 pm.
It is a sale with a donation component, not an auction.
If you can't make it at the weekend, you won't miss out on the event.
It runs until New Year's Eve, regardless of where the pictures happen to be hanging.
An image that has a twofold effect
A piece of photographic art on the wall does something to a room and to the people in it.
That is the reason why I take photographs.
In this case, it also does something for people whose situation we all hope never to find ourselves in.
Being able to achieve both at the same time does not happen automatically. That is why we are holding this fundraiser.
