Glass Sphere

alles dreht sich um Wein MRK 9693

History of origin:
‘Glass Sphere’ was created on a clear October day in the Zornheim district, when the first subtle changes in leaf colour were becoming visible. Inspired by this early stage of colour change, I wanted to capture the delicate transitions between greens and yellows and highlight their delicate beauty - those quiet harbingers of autumn that are often overlooked.

Description:
Through an intuitive circular movement of the camera (Intentional Camera Movement - ICM), I created a prism-like effect that transforms the soft greens and yellows into concentric circles while preserving the vine as the central element. The deliberate rotation creates a kind of optical glass through which we view the incipient autumnal transformation - a landscape unfolding in shimmering rings of colour, from fresh greens to delicate golden yellows. This technique makes it possible to intensify the delicate colour transitions and lend them a special luminosity.

Special features:
The uniqueness of ‘Glass Sphere’ lies in its extraordinary visual clarity despite its abstraction. Unlike other ICM works, the central motif remains recognisable here, while it is surrounded by concentric circles of colour - almost like a gemstone in a setting. This duality of clarity and abstraction lends the picture a special tension. The natural symmetry of the circular composition has a calming and focusing effect at the same time, as if one were looking through a magical lens into the soul of the vineyard and perceiving the delicate beginnings of the colour change more intensely.

Connection to the exhibition:
In the context of the exhibition ‘Between Reality & Vision’, ‘Glass Sphere’ perfectly illustrates the tension between reality and subjective perception. It shows how the view of the familiar can change when you shift your own perspective. This transformation of the ordinary into something extraordinary, without losing the connection to reality, is at the centre of the exhibition concept.

Reference to Rheinhessen:
The Zornheim vineyards exemplify the character of the Rhine-Hessian cultural landscape in early autumn. This work captures the characteristic soft green and yellow tones that are typical of this transitional period in the vineyards of Rheinhessen. The concentric arrangement symbolically reflects the central importance of viticulture for regional identity - like rings around a centre. ‘Glass Sphere’ thus condenses the essence of an October day in Rheinhessen into a visual experience that is simultaneously abstract and concrete, familiar and surprising.
