Suggestion of Wine

energie trauben entwicklung MRK 2503

History of origin:
‘Suggestion of Wine’ was created in August during an intensive photographic exploration of the vineyards. After shooting ‘Rock Around the Vine’, I turned my attention to the true centrepiece of viticulture - the ripening grapes themselves. It was at this moment that I realised: here, in these still unripe berries, lies the promise of future wine. I was fascinated by this transformation and development from the green grape to the finished wine and wanted to capture it.

Description:
Using the technique of Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), I made a circular movement around the grapes to symbolise precisely this development process. The resulting rotation creates a visual pull that draws the viewer directly into the centre of the picture - to where the still unripe, green grapes are located. The oscillating movement conveys the potential and energy contained in the fruit, while the surrounding blurred green tones are reminiscent of the protective function of the vine leaves.

Special features:
What makes ‘Suggestion of Wine’ special is the visualisation of a process rather than a static moment. Unlike traditional close-ups of grapes, this work shows the dynamics and transformation inherent in wine. The circular composition creates a kind of visual condensation - as if one were penetrating through the outer layers to the essential. Paradoxically, the blurring creates greater clarity about the actual character of the wine: it is never static, but always in the process of becoming.

Connection to the exhibition:
This work occupies a key position in the ‘Between Reality & Vision’ exhibition (regardless of its size), as it embodies the core idea of change and transformation particularly clearly. It exemplifies how something special can be created from the everyday (unripe grapes) through artistic interpretation - parallel to the process of wine production itself.

Reference to Rheinhessen:
This image captures an essential aspect of Rheinhessen's identity: the winegrowers' dependence and trust in natural processes. In Rheinhessen, where viticulture is deeply rooted in the cultural DNA, ‘Suggestion of Wine’ reflects precisely the phase in which the winegrowers are particularly tense as they follow the development of their grapes. It visualises that moment of hope and waiting that is so characteristic of this region - a moment between the present and the future, between the unripe grape and the finished wine that carries the essence of Rheinhessen within it.
