Uphills

Huegel Rheinhessen Herbst MRK 2555

History of origin:
‘Uphills’ was created in March, on one of the picturesque hills near Zornheim. I was inspired that day by the intense atmosphere of early spring and the gently rising structure of the rows of vines. I looked up to the hilltop and felt curiosity mixed with the uncertainty that accompanies the beginning of a new cycle - what awaits us behind this hill?

Description:
In ‘Uphills’, the camera's gaze deliberately directs the viewer uphill: the technique of Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) creates a delicate resolution of the details - a flowing, dynamic landscape portrait. The vine stakes appear like mysterious guidelines that lead into unknown realms and gently sway, while the green of spring is still hidden from view. The blurring emphasises the sense of the still unknown and conveys a gentle tension.

Special features:
The subtle dynamics in “Uphills” make it unique: it sensitively captures those complex feelings of expectation and uncertainty that accompany people each and every year. Instead of providing concrete answers, this picture poses open questions and invites us to continue our personal perception of the coming time.

Connection to the exhibition:
In the context of the exhibition ‘Between Reality & Vision’, ‘Uphills’ symbolises the recurring moment between departure and uncertainty. It embodies the constant change and the fleeting perspectives that I visualise with my photography and which is common to all the works in this exhibition.

Reference to Rheinhessen:
This work impressively reflects the specific character of Rheinhessen - a landscape full of rolling hills and open horizons that always offers room for thought and reflection. Zornheim and its hills are exemplary of this special atmosphere, which allows the everyday landscape to become a mirror of our own expectations and feelings.
