History of origin:
‘Symetry of a Dream’ was taken on a warm and clear day in June with a view over the hills towards Mommenheim. Inspired by the extraordinary geometry and clear lines of the rows of vines, I focussed my camera on this typical Rhine-Hessian hilly landscape. I wanted to capture the rhythm, the symmetry and the impressive expanse in a single image - an image that entices you to dream and fantasise.

Description:
The basis of my artistic vision for this work is the Intentional Camera Movement (ICM). This technique emphasises the gentle geometry and structure of the landscape and highlights the aesthetics of natural lines that gently carry the eye over the hills. The special panoramic format supports precisely this effect - you immediately feel the vastness and lose yourself in a calm flow of abstract forms that are both harmonious and rhythmic.

What makes ‘Symetry of a Dream’ unique is the fascinating balance between abstract effect and clear forms of a cultural landscape. On closer inspection, a meditative quality unfolds that transports us into a dream world of structure and colour gradients without completely losing awareness of the origin of the motif. The decidedly horizontal orientation creates a visual haven of peace.

Connection to the exhibition:
As part of the exhibition ‘Between Reality & Vision’, this work is a symbolic example of how the familiar, everyday landscape can suddenly be transformed into an abstract dream world. It is precisely this moment between reality and imagination, between the visible and the emotional world, that forms the centrepiece of the exhibition.

This work ideally reflects the landscape essence of Rheinhessen: the gentle hills laid out in clear lines, the striking order of the rows of vines and the enigmatic harmony of this region. The geometry around Mommenheim is exemplary for this area - Rheinhessen thus presents itself as a region in which nature and human design merge harmoniously and constantly open up new perspectives.
