Rock Around the Vine

blatt Weinstock tanzt im wind MRK 2517

History of origin:
‘Rock Around the Vine’ was created in August, when the vines were in full vigour. On that day, I was fascinated by the special vitality of the vine leaves moving in the summer wind - a natural spectacle full of energy and life. The leaves seemed to caress and protect the ripening grapes while at the same time interacting with the wind in a kind of dance-like movement.

Description:
Using the technique of Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), I deliberately used the circular movement of the camera to capture this dynamic energy of the vine leaves. The result is a kind of botanical vortex that transforms the natural structure of the leaves into an abstract composition. The intense green tones and the fine veins of the leaves remain recognisable, while the movement gives the image a pulsating liveliness. This technique makes it possible to visualise not only the motif itself, but above all its energy and vitality.

Special features:
The speciality of ‘Rock Around the Vine’ lies in its circular, almost hypnotic quality. Unlike other works that show horizontal or vertical movements, this painting allows an intimate view of the micro-level of the vine - as if one were looking directly into the pulsating heart of the vine. The circling composition conveys a sense of centring and simultaneous movement, giving this work a special depth and presence.

Connection to the exhibition:
In the context of the exhibition ‘Between Reality & Vision’, this work is an example of how the usual perception of a vine can be transformed through artistic interpretation. It emphasises the exhibition's central idea of looking at everyday elements of Rheinhessen in a new light and making their hidden energy visible.

Reference to Rheinhessen:
The vines of Rheinhessen, especially in midsummer, epitomise the vitality and fertility of this region. This work captures the specific atmosphere of a Rheinhessen vineyard in August - the phase that is decisive for the later character of the wine. It shows the intimate connection between landscape, climate and vegetation that gives Rheinhessen its unmistakable character - a connection that is reflected in every glass of wine from this region.
